Accredited members of the AAA can apply to serve on any of the following committees. Please view the list of committees below to learn more about their purpose and responsibilities. |
Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is responsible for the governance of the Association which includes the oversight and management of the property, funds and affairs of the Association. The Executive Committee is elected in accordance with the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act (the Act), the Municipal Assessor Regulation (the Regulation), and the Association bylaws. Time commitments for an Executive Committee member is approximately 2 ½ hours per month for Executive Committee meetings (online), 4 days of in-person meetings (2 in June and 2 in December) and the ex-officio committee meetings which are approximately 1 ½ hours per month depending on the committee that you sit on. Exam Sub-CommitteeThe Exam Sub-Committee is responsible for meeting with and examining candidates, reviewing exam questions, staying up to date on the MGA, reviewing demos and meeting with the Registration Committee. Volunteer hours vary from about 0-8 hours per month for the committee chair depending on how many demos must be reviewed and another 0-8 hours for the chair and other committee members. Usually one full day every two 2 months is required for examiners. Exam members are picked on a rotating basis and due to the availability of members. Communications Committee
The Communications Committee is responsible for promoting the Association both externally and internally. The Committee prepares the newsletter quarterly as well as member bulletins as needed, manages the corporate image, administers the website and social media accounts, and monitors advertising, promotions, and communications to ensure consistency. The Committee generally meets 12 times per year and the time commitment is roughly 2-4 hours per month. |
Registration CommitteeThe Registration Committee is a mandatory committee of the Executive Committee pursuant to section 2 of the Regulation. The mandate of the committee is to consider membership applications to join the Alberta Assessors' Association and assist applicants working towards their AMAA designation. This includes grading and/or reviewing mandatory requirements of the accreditation process, including Demonstration Appraisal Reports, Tools for Practicing Assessment in Alberta courses and Candidate Oral Examinations. The Committee generally meets 12 times per year and the time commitment is roughly 1 hour per month. Practice Review CommitteeThe Practice Review Committee is responsible to evaluate/develope educational standards for the membership, evaluating desirable standards of competence for the practice of the membership, promote the development of continuing education programs for the membership, and advise on the practice of assessment in general. The Committee meets 12 - 14 times per year and the time commitment is roughly 2-4 hours per month. Legislative Policy CommitteeThe mandate of the Legislative Policy Committee is to review/prepare position papers on behalf of the Alberta Assessor’s Association involving legislation and government policy issues affecting the practice of assessment. Additionally, the Legislative Policy Committee creates and amends the guiding principles for the Alberta Assessors Association. Discipline CommitteeThe Discipline Committee is responsible to investigate and/or review complaints filed against regulated members for misconduct under the professional code of conduct of the Alberta Assessors’ Association. The time commitment is difficult to summarize, in any given year there may be several complaints or none. In the years when there are several complaints the time commitment could be several (5-10) hours a month, in other years perhaps 1-2 hours per month at the most. Our committee meetings occur as necessary, an initial meeting to organize members as either investigators or adjudicators is about an hour. Additional meetings are ‘as needed’ perhaps 1-2 per year might be typical. |
