Speaker Bios
Carol Zukiwski
Carol Zukiwski's practice is primarily focused on assisting municipalities and the provincial assessor with property assessment complaints and appeals. Carol also serves as counsel to administrative tribunals helping them with determining a fair hearing procedure and with decision writing. She appears regularly before the Municipal Government Board, Composite Assessment Review Boards and before the Court of Queen’s Bench. Carol has been on the staff of two Boards and a member of two additional Boards. Carol is a Qualified Arbitrator (Q.Arb) which is a national designation. Arbitrators are appointed to solve disputes under commercial contracts, labour disputes, disputes, family and estate disputes. This allows Carol to use strong skills in a fair process and decision writing as an independent neutral adjudicator. Carol is also an instructor with the Foundation of Administrative Justice and is appointed to the Payment In Lieu of Taxes Federal Tribunal.
Mike Krim
Mike Krim, AMAA, graduated from the Lakeland College program in 1990 and soon after started his assessment career with Rockyview County. A year later, he moved to private assessment with Compass Assessment Consultants and, in 1997, started his own company, Tanmar Consulting. Tanmar now serves 18 municipal clients and is based out of Sherwood Park. Mike was very closely integrated with the CAMAlot developers prior to the change in ownership in 2021, having shared office space with them for many years. Mike is also finishing up 6 years on our association’s Executive Committee as the Financial Director.
Thomas Hussey
Thomas Hussey is a support specialist working for CATALIS on the CAMAlot product and has been in the role since 2021. His role is to help municipalities with their CAMA and assessment questions. Previously, he worked as an Assessor 1 for Strathcona County, learning the ins and outs of Alberta assessment for 7 years. He is a graduate of Lakeland College’s Appraisal and Assessment program.
Michael Swanberg
Michael Swanberg, Partner at RMRF, acts for a range of clients, including professional regulatory organizations, municipalities and public bodies, employers and employees, and media outlets. He approaches his work with a keen eye for detail and a practical sensibility. Michael provides advice in the area of Municipal Tax Assessment for municipalities throughout Alberta. He has appeared as primary and secondary counsel at hearings before Assessment Review Boards and the Land and Property Rights Tribunal in matters related to tax assessment. Michael is a member of the Association of Canadian Assessors’ Counsel. Michael works with organizations that regulate and govern various professions. His work includes prosecuting discipline matters and acting as independent legal counsel to disciplinary tribunals.
Anton Szabo
Anton Szabo holds a Bachelors and Masters Degree from the University of Alberta in Political Science and completed work in a Masters of Advanced International Studies Program from the University of Vienna. He began his career as an Edmonton City Council political staffer and transitioned to a member of Edmonton’s Administration in 2011. Since that time, he has held a variety of positions with both Assessment and Taxation as well as Intergovernmental Affairs. He currently holds the position of the Director of Policy and Data Quality within the City of Edmonton’s Assessment and Taxation Branch.
Grace Martin
Author, high school teacher, and professional development speaker Grace Martin brings a wealth of time management knowledge to the table. Her experience as a wellness coach led to the creation of her ebook "My Physics Teacher Said: 10 Ways to Think Smarter and Live Better," while balancing young adult fiction writing, parenting, spiritual healing, coaching, and teaching. Grace is a proponent of balancing all dimensions of our well-being for a more productive, healthy, and fulfilling life both at work and at home.
